GRANDMA’S CINNAMON ROLLS
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 package dry yeast
3 cups unbleached flour, divided
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon melted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup currants or chopped raisins
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Place butter, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
Scald the milk, and pour over the ingredients in the bowl. Cool to lukewarm.
Soften the yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. When milk mixture is lukewarm, add yeast and 1-1/2 cups flour. Beat with electric mixer for 2 minutes. Add 1 to 1-1/2 cups more flour, enough to make a dough that is just barely firm enough to handle.
Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread with melted butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over buttered dough. Evenly sprinkle with currants or raisins. Roll dough into a log. Cut into 3/4” pieces. Place in buttered baking pans. Brush with melted butter. Allow to rise for one hour. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown. Combine the powdered sugar with the milk, and glaze the buns. Cool and serve.
Makes 24 rolls.
